One Race only Churches?

I never really thought much about growing up in my dad's Baptist church and how it was all white UNTIL I came to New Testament Christian Churches and found that almost all the churches consist of multi-racial congregations. Then I began to look at the churches around the US and how you have the "white" churches and then the "black" churches and then now the Asian as well and on and on. Why are we segregated in our worship? We meaning the rest of you all lol.

My church is NOT segregated and it is, as our motto says: "A Church of ALL Nations". It is the love that brings all races together to be able to worship in one accord. Wake up people.......there will not be a segregated Heaven! There will be no prejudice people, in other words haters, in Heaven!

Even in our small NTCC church when I lived in Alaska, it consisted of roughly 12 faithful members at the time......consisting of whites, blacks, puerto ricans and asian! Then when I came to the NTCC I now attend, which runs roughly 1500+....it was full of so many nationalities that I can't even think of them all to post here lol. We all worship together and love one another.

SO WHY??? WHY are the majority of Christian churches in the US segregated? Is your church all white or all black, etc? If so, why?

I remember someone telling me in the South that is the way it is, but I have you to know that we have NTCC churches there that have BOTH blacks and whites in them! So don't use the "it's the south thing" card on me, it won't work! LOL

Another interesting thing I came across was Barack Obama's church. He attends Chicago's Trinity Church of Christ. Sounds innocent enough but look what is on their website describing who they are:

Trinity United Church of Christ

About Us

We are a congregation which is Unashamedly Black and Unapologetically Christian… Our roots in the Black religious experience and tradition are deep, lasting and permanent. We are an African people, and remain “true to our native land,” the mother continent, the cradle of civilization. God has superintended our pilgrimage through the days of slavery, the days of segregation, and the long night of racism. It is God who gives us the strength and courage to continuously address injustice as a people, and as a congregation. We constantly affirm our trust in God through cultural expression of a Black worship service and ministries which address the Black Community.

What about white people? Are they not allowed?

Now imagine this if you will.....what if there was an "all white" church that had statements like that on their website, can't you hear the cries of RACISM RACISM!? It would go something like this (just replacing the word "black" in the above church with "white")

We are a congregation which is Unashamedly White and Unapologetically Christian… Our roots in the White religious experience and tradition are deep, lasting and permanent. NOW COME ON PEOPLE!!!!! You would see that on the 11'oclock news in no time! However, this black church can do it and get by with it? What is the difference? There is NO difference.....having respect of persons goes both ways. So that says a lot about Obama huh? Well a real Christian would not believe in Democrats views anyway on abortion and homosexuality, the "Liberal" (Christian only in name) supports those views.

Ok.....so if you are attending one of these all white or all black or all whatever churches, stop and ask yourself WHY the church is full of only one race. I have seen some other "Holiness" churches out in the US and I had wondered many times how they seem right and we agree Biblically and I had asked God in prayer one time, is there anything wrong about them? The thought immediately entered my mind of how they are all white, almost ALL of them! I still wonder why they are..is it like they exclude black people and other races? Hmph........well Praise God that I found a church that doesn't and its spreading the same message all throughout the world.......LOVE!

This little Baptist church I attend (when I am not able to make it to NTCC of course) is multi cultural. We have Americans, Germans, Indonesians, Africans, people from Indonesia, Australia, England, Puerto Rico and heaven knows where else :-)

God is a God of all cultures. I have never understood why there are African American Baptist churches, African American Methodist churches and so forth. Why don't they want to worship with other races?
An African American Baptist service is sure different than a white folks church service :-)

I can understand with some Koreans, Japanese and even Spanish people who stick to their own churches because many of them don't speak English or don't speak it very well and are more comfortable worshipping God in their own tongue. I can see that.

I think the big difference is in the white vs. black churches.

Unity people, it's about uniting as Christ's children and worshipping Him together <><

I agree Dawn, and I was specifically speaking about US churches and how most are segregated over here. I definitely can understand the language issue!

Agreed, there should be no segregation in churches...alas, it is sad that there is.
Nice blog!

We attend a small Congregational Holiness Church in the south, in an area where blacks are scarce and we welcome all races. We've had blacks attending and also Asians. I'm not saying that all the C. H. churches feel that way, but our little group is welcoming to everyone and always show love to them.

I totally agree with you regarding Obama's church's statement. I've always said, "How come the blacks are allowed to have Miss Black America? If we were to have an all white Miss America, there'd be an outcry!"...so forth and so on.
I also agree that a true Christian cannot vote democrat. It would go against everything Christians believe and stand for.
Great post!

I believe that most churches are not segregated "on purpose". That's just the way it is. Most people flock to what (and who) they know.

I do believe, however, that if one were to post a "We are decidedly white" sign on their church, it would cause a stink like you've never seen. But, I think you could post it the other way and no one would say a thing about it. But, that's a post for another time.

Great post! For some time, our family has been of the mind set that there is but one race ... the human race. Racism based on color in grounded in evolutionary theory and is so distructive to the body of Christ.

You can read more about this subject in a book "One Race" and at the Answers in Genesis website.

It is so sad that so many Christian folks have allowed this mindset to separate and weaken the church of God.

Thanks for taking a stand!

Blessings & joy,
Lea
