I posted this 2 years ago, but with Mother's Day coming up in the near future, I wanted to draw our attention to Motherhood and all that it entails. I'm going to start with this poem because as Mothers, we MUST monitor our time spent online (or with any activity) and that we do not let it become a stronghold and take us away from our responsibilities. We must not let it become priority over God and our family! Of course, none of my blog readers have ever struggled with that, so I'm just preaching to the choir I guess.
Mom Online
I can hear them calling...so they are fine
"Where's Mom?" they are saying...Don't they know I'm online?
We're hungry I hear...I tell them please hush
Mom is online now, what is the rush?
They had a bite yesterday...when the phone lines were out
These kids will drive you crazy, Oh look, a pout
I dispense bowls of cereal, as I download a file
No time wasted here...I'm a true computerphile!
I check out the boards, and respond to a few...
"We're so bored", moan the children, "What can we do?"
I tell them to stop, and please do not whine...
Can't they see that their mother is busy online??
The grumbling continues as they wander about
"Mom's ALWAYS on the computer", together they shout
Unawares to me, they yank the phone line from the jack,
and say "Daddy's right, this is the way to get Mommy back!"

That's really very good and a very convicting poem how we can sometimes let Internet, Twitter, Facebook become TOO much focus in our lives...
The other day, we went to the doctor's office, due to the kids being sick, and I glance over and saw a nurse checking her Facebook profile, and honestly..that just doesn't leave me a comforting feeling.
Computers have become more idols these days and worse when we find ourselves saying to ourselves,"We have to blog, or have to twitter" and start finding justification or excuses why we have to...when that happens..maybe we HAVE to go to God's word instead then.
Very true Twinkle Mom and I probably would have said something if I saw a nurse on duty checking her facebook page! That is just not acceptable you know what I mean? Thanks for the comment! :)

Dear Bev,
I came across this article on your Blog just today.....now over two years since it was published.
I believe the situation regarding the social networking sites is a BIG problem in 2011.
I know of an English lady who has an account for her five year-old child!!! I can't believe it!
What's happened to friends, neighbours and family?
Cyberworld seems to influence some children more than their own parents do. Many times the parents are oblivious to what's going on in Cyberworld with their own children, and they are too involved with their own social networking sites also. To me this is shocking, frightening and an indication of the breakdown in traditional family values.
Do we really want to here all the details about so- and- so?
Do we need to see all the pictures?
Wouldn't it be better to sit down as a family and share what happened within the family that day?
The poem shared here today no doubt would make women look at what is going on in their own lives, and the lives of their children.
We are responsible for raising our children to love God - not the Internet.
Wonderful comment Homequeen! I agree with all you said and its taking over the US rapidly. Adults, teenagers and children alike are using all this technology, which utilizes the right-brain that they can't stand to do left-brain tasks - such as reading, i.e. the Bible. They are losing concentration, only able to hold their attention for short snippets and on and on. This will effect our world in a terrible way and the only the years to come will we realize just how bad it has. Gone will be the days when people can even sit still in a church and hear a 30 minutes message because they have programmed themselves to convenience, instant-gratification, over-familiarity and short snippets of everything that enduring the Word of God will be too much.
God help our world is my prayer!! Only when people stand up and sound alarms can others realize there is a problem. With much technology, comes a hefty price - what are we willing to pay?
