Poll: When Do You Start Planning Your Garden?

*Poll closed

Since I was pregnant last year, I didn't get to do my garden and I missed it!  I want to make sure I'm able to do it this year but it will require a lot of planning because our garden beds are overgrown with weeds unfortunately.  I'm not sure whether we will have to completely remove the soil and replace it or get in there and try to get all the weeds out.  Either way, I want to start planning soon and was wondering when others start planning?  Please take the poll on the right if you garden, thanks!

Before I'm done harvesting the last one.I like to take notes and make sure I am not planting the same crop's in the same spot.I also love garden seed catalogs.

In the past I've only container gardened. Since we finally bought our first home this year, I'm going to try some small raised beds and still continue to container/patio garden.

Someone told me about a website where you enter your zip code and it will tell you when it's theoretically the best time to plant specific plants, etc. I have yet to check it out, but it's definitely on my to do list.

I've seen that website but can't remember where it was lol. Thanks Alicia and good luck with raised bed gardening, that is what we do! :)

Hi Bev,
Here in Chicago I wait until after Mother's Day to plant the garden. We are usually safe from frost at that point!

After digging through several emails, I found the website recommended to me. http://www.smartgardener.com/

This site also looked really cool and helpful. You can design your own garden beds by clicking and dragging the plants you want, where you want them. Then you can print your planting map WITH very detailed planting directions.

So many options! I need to start researching now. Planting season will be around the corner before I know it. I don't want to miss my opportunity with grocery prices soaring.

I can imagine, Tricia, the cold there, as I lived in Alaska for 8 years! I don't see how I would have done a garden in Alaska though lol, seeing how summer was only 3 months and there really wasn't a spring without snow. =0

Alicia - Thanks so much for looking that up!
