The Television

I have a long story of my TV experience growing up but I will try and give a summary. We didn't have a TV until I was 9, and it was quite a change when that TV came in! It is something that is forever embedded in my mind and even as a child, I saw its detrimental effects on my parents, our family and even myself. It wasn't long before we all had a TV in our rooms and at dinner, we took our food to our rooms and sat in front of our "teacher" the TV. From then on, the only time we sat together for dinner was holidays.

I watched my parents slowly allow things into our home and watched my Dad stop preaching against them over time. What was once thought sin, one at a time, became "ok" and acceptable...after all, it was once saved, always saved so who cared? From worldly music to cursing - it was all ok now. However, before the TV, I can not forget the first time my Dad found a worldly music cassette tape in my oldest Sister's purse. He called us all in to witness what would happen if we brought that into the house. He said that Satan was not going to come into our home and then he smashed that cassette tape with a hammer! However, a few short years later he bought me my first ever rap CD, and then from there - it was a free for all.

My parents had decided that the TV could be my teacher and believe me - it did teach me, but not the sort of things I should have ever learned in the way I did. It infiltrated my mind with all kinds of sin that I didn't know about and brought up lusts inside me that I had never known before then. Our family had became like Lot when he pitched his tent towards Sodom - it wasn't long after "watching" the world from afar that he eventually had to go there and be a part of it. That is much the same as watching sinful things on TV - sitting in your home watching the world and watching others sin; stirring up evil imaginations and lusts within yourself. Setting the evil before your eyes with temptations abounding.

Genesis 13:12-13

Lot dwelled in the cities of the plain, and pitched his tent toward Sodom.
But the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners before the LORD exceedingly.

Would you allow someone to have sex in your home and watch them? Then tell me WHY you do by watching it on TV? Hey, homosexuals - come on in my home and let me and my family watch you kiss each other. Hey, ill clad women - come on in my home and let us watch you and look at your nakedness. Hey, fornicators, adulterers - come on in my home and let my family watch you have sex. We love watching sin - give us MORE is the cry! Come on in cursing, covetousness, idolatry and all manner of sin - my family and I want to watch you! Hey, Satan - here are my children, go ahead and teach them.

I saw what TV can do to a family and I won't let that happen to mine! My daughter is allowed to watch some DVD's, mostly cartoons or educational. We have to screen things before we let our children's little eyes be exposed to them.

Keep pitching your tent towards Sodom, Lot, and let's see how long it is before you - one by one, turn what used to be "sin" into acceptable and join them.
