Snoogle Pregnancy Pillow

*Update - I love the comfort of the pillow but I can't fall asleep all the way with it because of the neck portion.  It feels like my ear is smooshed and there isn't much give in that area.  However, I love it for resting, lounging and nights I have a hard time sleeping - I use it until I get the drowsy feeling and then throw it on the floor and fall asleep.  I'm still ending up on my back in the night, even the one time I fell asleep with the Snoogle.

My husband bought me the Snoogle pregnancy pillow today and WOW is this thing big!  A couple at the maternity store had it and the husband warned my hubby that I will choose the pillow over him LOL!  Too funny but I can see why as it is so comfortable and there are many ways you can use this pillow.  My favorite way so far is the back position.  I needed something to hold up my back and stop me from rolling over in my sleep.  I keep waking up on my back and feeling like I can't breath, that is your body's way of telling you to stay off the back from what I understand.  Pregnant women shouldn't sleep on their back towards the 2nd trimester because it can slow or cut off the flow of the blood to the baby.  I don't think I'm going to be able to roll on my back with this pillow but tonight will be the first test.

It comes with a cover that is washable and a chart that shows you all the different ways you can use the pillow. I did try it as a lounger against the headboard for reading and it is comfortable!  I liked that is was made in the USA, you don't see that too often.

Spring 2012 Garden - Strawberry Plants

I'm not entirely sure yet if I'm going to do the garden this year being pregnant but I did get the ok from the nurse to garden as long as I had gloves on.  Since I'm dealing with compost and manure, I will also probably wear a mask so I won't inhale any toxins.  The best part is that my garden is organic, so I don't have to worry about chemicals or pesticides!

Believe it or not, my strawberry plants from last year have already grown fresh again with bright green leaves, stems and buds!  We may get some strawberries growing in May if it gets warm enough.  These are supposed to come back every year for 3 years and is probably one of the best investments I have made for my garden as they gave us large amounts of strawberries last year and a few years to come!

In the last photo is a brand new strawberry plant.  The one I had in that spot last year didn't grow or blossom, but it sure is this year!

My First Ultrasound - 8 Weeks

Turns out there is only one baby in there and I am 8 weeks and 2 days along.  We saw and heard his heartbeat, it was beating at 176 bpm.  Katie was ecstatic and I was crying and my husband was beaming he was so happy lol.  You may notice I'm calling the baby a "he."  That is because I believe it is a boy and we even picked the name Zachary a few weeks ago in the car on the way home.  It wasn't until after that, that I looked it up to see what it meant.  Zachary means "God has remembered!"  How incredible is that!?  After all these years, God has remembered me and opened up my womb again!!!

I hadn't discussed it on here, but I was depressed as the doctor had told me in January that I was most likely infertile and may not even be able to have anymore children.  I had almost given up, we had quit "trying" and thinking about a baby and I was going on with my life.  We even started seriously discussing adoption.  Then I missed my period and I was shocked as I'm like clock-work and track my cycle meticulously.  How could I be pregnant when we had pretty much given up?  As soon as I took the test, there was a line - there was no doubt that I was pregnant!

Longtime readers may know that I was told I was sterile when I was 23 and right after I got that dismal outlook I got pregnant with Katie.  It is almost as if God was waiting for the doctor to once again say those words, sentencing me to a barren womb, so that He could show Himself mighty and work another miracle!!!!  God has remembered me!

6 Weeks Pregnancy Update

Sorry I've been missing lately, I haven't felt up to doing much of anything.  Not sure if everyone wants to know but my pregnancy symptoms are in full swing with nausea (some vomiting), night sweats, body aches, extreme fatigue, depression and dizziness.  It basically feels like I have the flu all the time but without a fever - although touching my body that feels like an oven sure feels like I'm burning!  This is worse than I remember with my first, I was hoping it would be an easy pregnancy lol - well, there is still time and hopefully all this nausea will be gone after the first trimester or sooner.

I have been exercising regularly - doing weights and walking and prenatal pilates.  I should be able to continue throughout my whole pregnancy.  I can only gain 15 pounds, as I'm "obese."  I don't see how a size 14 is obese but that is what I am, go figure.  I was losing weight, then I got my appetite back and have been eating in spurts and my weight went up, but now it is back to where I started.  Generally, being obese, I shouldn't gain anything until the 2nd trimester, so between cravings - I'm trying to eat really clean.

My belly has been sticking out for 2 weeks now and it was all of the sudden.  I will find out on Friday if they will do an ultrasound to see if I'm a month farther or have twins.  Or, I could just be having a normal 2nd pregnancy as they say your 2nd one shows quicker.  The illustration of a blowing up a balloon helps understand this.  When a balloon has already been inflated once, it will inflate quicker the 2nd time.  That is much like the uterus and mine inflated HUGE with my first lol!  I gained 60 pounds with her but I do NOT plan on doing that this time for sure!

Today marks the end of my 6th week, I hope to update in the future and hopefully post if I have the energy.

Homemade Convenience Foods E-book Review & Giveaway

*Giveaway ended, winner is here.

I came upon Marcia Washburn on the Homeschool Channel while looking through videos.  I really loved her lecture and that is where I heard about her e-book: Homemade Convenience Foods.  She graciously gave me a free copy to review.  It came right on time because the day after I got it, I found out I was pregnant!  Homeschooling with a newborn will be new for me and I will no doubt need some convenience foods ready in 15 minutes or less.  The e-book comes up nicely on my Kindle Fire as well as the computer.  If you would rather have a non-electronic version, she also offers a printed comb-bound copy.

If you follow her plan, you will have meals that can be fixed anytime in 15 minutes or less.  She tells you about the method, what you need, how to do it and also gives you recipes.  It is a short e-book but a wealth of information is contained in these 34 pages.  Pages 6-15 contain the method and how-to and pages 16-33 contain the recipes.

It does involve some freezer cooking but not the way that I do it, her method is unique as she tailors it to meals that will be ready in 15 minutes or less.  To make convenience foods at home without buying them from the store will save, not only money, but you and your family's health.  I believe I will start using this method to have some extra meals on hand to make in a hurry instead of heading to fast food or take-out!

She is offering a free e-book to giveaway to one of my readers.  Simply leave a comment with your name to enter.  When I announce the winner next week, you will need to email me to claim the prize.  Giveaway ends on April 11, 2012 at midnight PST.  Giveaway ended, winner is here.

You can purchase the e-book on sale until April 20th for $4.99.  You can also get a printed comb-bound version for $5.99 plus $2 shipping and handling.  If you purchase the book and then win this giveaway, she will give you a refund.
