Holiness Living is Conducive to Making It

This is my 4th post from the series and you can find the 3rd one here - it was a past post from 2020 that fit well within the parameters of the theme.

Living holy lives gets a bad rap in the modern Christian world today from those who want to claim Christ but don't want to obey Him.  In an American society where seemingly even $100K salary isn't enough to survive on, we see poverty-stricken women adorning themselves in everything from face creams to rouge to designer wear.  You see, men think that they can't afford a wife and kids on $100K but the truth of the matter is, they can't afford the women's vanity and covetousness.  I'm well aware that men can be covetous as well, if not more so, with their wants out of control, but this is a blog aimed at women.

Take a normal American woman today with her mani's and pedi's, salon visits, weekly clothing purchases, beauty creams, anti-aging potions and makeup galore - she is sure to break the bank of most men.  She's painted up like a plastic Barbie and forever worried about her image.  It's called idolatry and she worships at her mirrored and selfie altar.  Not only is this an expensive sin but it is a demeaning one.  She can't bear to be unmasked, as she is truly in a prison of fake.

Now take a woman living the holiness lifestyle with a Godly heart.  She is shamefaced, so she has no need for makeup.  She isn't worshipping her own image, so there is no mad rush to buy every product to stop aging.  She is natural and doesn't add on fake additions to her appendages.  She is modestly dressed and doesn't buy clothing to show off, so she doesn't spend her weeks shopping for more and more clothes.  Bottom line - she is affordable!

Holiness living is conducive to "making it" in our American society.  It not only saves you a ton of money but it saves the planet a ton of waste.  As my last section shows on The Law of Blessing From Obeying Gender Roles, a wife at home is a valuable asset.  She is home practicing frugality as needed within her husband's wages and she looks after the household budget and has time to pray and think about purchases.  She is truly a manager of the home and finances and saves the family an enormous amount through her wise meal planning and homemade cooking; and saves the family's health in most cases!

Can America really afford to go without a wife at home?  It sure doesn't seem so because just this week it was revealed that the average American family needs $270K to make it!  Yet, most of us live on $60K or lower, and that with children.  People are so far removed from the cost of their ways that they have gone mad.  The spirit of never enough has enamored the masses in their own prison, of which they will never escape until they cast aside its tentacles of control.

Living a Life of True Contentment

What is at the root of the problem for those who say it is never enough is lack of contentment.  Webster's defines contented as: feeling or showing satisfaction with one's possessions, status, or situation.  How many people do you know who can say they are satisfied with what they have in America?  Are you satisfied with what you have?  Or is it rather, just not "enough" yet?

Some verses of note from the Bible:

Luke 3:14  And the soldiers likewise demanded of him, saying, And what shall we do? And he said unto them, Do violence to no man, neither accuse any falsely; and be content with your wages.

Phil. 4:11  Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.

1Tim. 6:8  And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.

Hebrews 13:5  Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

Notice, we are given examples to be content with our wages, learn to be content in every state of life, be content with our needs being met and let our life be without covetousness - this spirit of never enough - and be content with what we have!  Satan wants you to get on the treadmill of never enough and it isn't just because he wants to bankrupt you financially but he also wants you to to go hell.  Covetousness is a sin and you won't enter heaven (1Cor. 6:10), so we should be very aware of this spirit that is destroying many Americans like a cancer.

Defining the Spirit of Never Enough

What exactly is the spirit of never enough?  It has also been called covetousness for all time but in our modern terms we can simply understand it as the drive to "get" and where it is never enough.  First, let's define what covetousness is:

covet something: to want something very much, especially something that belongs to somebody else (Oxford)

covetousness: the feeling of having a strong desire for the things that other people have (Oxford)

- practices greediness (Greek)

- an over eager desire of the wealth of this world, envying those who have more than we (Matthew Henry)

- The covetous man is ever running out into futurity with insatiable desires after secular good; and, if this disposition be not checked, it increases as the subject of it increases in years. Covetousness is the vice of old age. (Adam Clarke)

We have all seen it, those whose main goal in life is to get, get, get and will do anything to gain riches.  It's all they think they about, it's all they do, it is what their entire persona is encapsulated in.  However obvious it may seem, there is a spirit that has infected a majority of people in this country, of which they aren't even aware for the simple fact that it is the norm.

The spirit of never enough is all around us.  From the lowliest man on the street doing anything he can to get the next fix, to the homemaker who has to have everything just so, to the CEO of the largest corporation who just can't seem to ever be satisfied.  It's in every state, in every city, in every town and in every neighborhood.  How could this be?  How could those in the richest nation on the earth still be chasing and never finding enough?

The Spirit of Never Enough - Series

On the heels of my recent podcast, "Stop Chasing It", I am starting a series on "The Spirit of Never Enough."  This is reaching its height in the richest nation on the earth and I know it has to be turning God's stomach.  What America needs IS a reality check and we may very well be experiencing that right now.  It is much needed as we are surrounded by complaining on every side, of people so full of covetousness and their wants, that they don't even appreciate that their needs are met beyond what most people in the world today could ever dream of!

My husband let me know today that he is going to be doing a podcast shortly.  I'm so excited about this and I hope it will be a blessing to you all as he shares what is on his heart and mind with my readers/listeners.  We need to hear a man's side and I'm confident that my husband will be one of the greatest assets to this series.

This may change as I go along but here is the outline of what I plan on talking about in this series and some of you that listened to my podcast may see an overlapping on some posts:

  1. Defining the Spirit of Never Enough
  2. Living a Life of True Contentment
  3. The Law of Blessing From Obeying Gender Roles
  4. Holiness Living is Conducive to Making It

The Law of Blessing From Obeying Gender Roles

I've learned that whether or not you are a Christian, there is a law that seems to happen that whenever the man and woman step into their proper roles - the result is a blessing.  I dare you to try it.  I've done this for 20 years!  If the man fulfills his Godly role of being the provider and the head of the home and loving his wife as Christ loved the church and the woman fulfills her Godly role of being the keeper at home and in submission to her husband and respects him and his decisions - you can't help but be blessed!!

During this time of quarantine we can see so many women acting like they are literally dying by 1. Being home and 2. Being home with their kids.  These women are so unaware of what they were made for.  Their children FEEL that they are unwanted, I know because I was one of them with a mother like that.  Let me tell you something women that are like this, listen to me and listen close.  It is time for you to SURRENDER.  You are called to sacrifice yourself for your husband and children.  You can't be selfish, it will only hurt the ones you are supposed to love the most - your family.  Let go and surrender your agenda and serve your family!

We are called to a life of service as women.  We can't let our own pursuits take over to the point that we are serving self and neglecting not only the very people we are responsible for; our children; but the very thing we are created for!

After 20 years of living on one income and being in my role as a woman and my husband in his as a man, I can look back and see the wonderful law of blessing that God has put upon this type of unity.  It's as if no matter how 2-income couples try their hardest to get ahead, they have to work extra hard for it than we did.  Sometimes God has just handed us things on a platter for free.  Was it just because we were His children?  I don't think so because I know unsaved couples that saw this law of blessing performed in their lives because of the proper unity of roles.  There is just something about obeying the natural roles that applies to everyone!

In reality, the "law" is actual obedience to God's Word and thereby comes the blessing.  God created us in the roles He did and they work in perfect unity when performed and if we do the opposite, we can't expect that this law of blessing will reside upon us because we are in disobedience.  It's time to get this law of blessing working in your family today!  No career is worth disobeying God for and neglecting your home, husband and children.  Disobeying this very basic role for which you are made is only going to hurt you and that, quite possibly, for all eternity.
